This new house captures magnificent views over Bronte Beach and the Pacific Ocean, with a series of terraced floors that climb the steep block from the street.

This terraced arrangement overcomes the 13 metre height difference from street level to the site’s highest point. It also helps to reduce overall bulk and intersperses internal rooms with multiple outdoor spaces that introduce natural light and cross-flow breezes.

The lower levels are given over to garage carparking, a swimming pool with ocean views, the main gallery-like entry and a guest bedroom.

Located above, the main living and entertaining spaces open to an entertaining terrace and a protected grassy courtyard. The uppermost level – which is perched like a delicate hat on the heavier structure below – accommodates the family’s bedrooms and bathrooms.

The use of off-form concrete imparts a feeling of groundedness and permanence, which is enhanced by the use of dark timber and feature marble. Timber batten screens and charcoal metal surfaces provide textural contrast.

Thanks to its commanding beach views and multiple outdoor spaces, this home opens up to its stunning surroundings while offering sufficient privacy for our clients.
