Designing a flagship retail environment means not only listening to the client’s needs, but also requires an almost instinctive understanding of the brand’s essential values.

So when Rachel Gilbert came to us to design her first store in Sydney’s Paddington, we sat back, looked, listened and learned. Her collections are glamorous and glitzy, but her clients also seek the relaxed, easy-wearing appeal of her clothes.

Our design envisaged a space that would, on the one hand, mark her apart from the other boutiques clustered around Sydney’s fashionable Glenmore Road and Oxford Street precinct, but also form a shape-shifting showcase for her constantly evolving collections.

Vibrant colourways are one of Gilbert’s hallmarks, so we opted for a subdued, predominantly neutral backdrop that utilises raw, textured materials to provide a foil and context for the clothing.

Reflective surfaces alternate with matte finishes to seduce the customer in a fitout that is otherwise simple, understated and timeless.
